WASHINGTON (AP) _ A House Republican leader isn’t ashamed to say he’s praying for America.
Indiana Congressman Mike Pence told the Conservative Political Action Conference that when a reporter called recently to ask if he opened meetings of his fellow Republicans with prayer, the answer was yes.
Pence remarked, “Only in Washington, D.C., is being caught in private prayer a newsworthy event.”
Pence, who chairs the House Republican Conference, told CPAC attendees that in “times like these, it’s a good time to remember what your knees are for.”
He noted that the Bible asks, “If the foundations crumble, how can the righteous stand?”
But Pence said when he prays, he feels assurance that by God’s grace, “things will go right again.”
