Nebraska church to mark return of bell, steeple
By Carl • Dec 3rd, 2009 • Category: Faith ReportTOBIAS, Neb. (AP) _ Weather permitting, members of a 130-year-old congregation in southeastern Nebraska will celebrate the return of their church bell and steeple on Sunday.
In July 2008, high winds knocked down the bell tower and steeple at Zion Lutheran Church near the small town of Tobias. The bell survived the fall, but its cradle was damaged.
Now after more than a year, the congregation has raised enough money for a new cradle, steeple and bell tower, as well as for support work underneath.
The new steeple and bell tower are scheduled to be installed this week so the bell can resume its calls to worship.
